The Blue Ridge Draft Legal  Triathlon Festival is a day of collegiate focused triathlon racing. Staged out of beautiful Smith Mountain Lake State Park this triathlon classic has clear water, mountain views and fun courses. The swim start features a sandy beach start and a crisp, clear lake. The bike and run courses are rural, rolling and not too challenging. Colleges from all over the Mid-Atlantic bring their Varsity and Club teams to compete. The competition is fierce and friendly.  The races are broken-down into Divisions and each race will have a mass start.

If you are spectating and bringing the family this is a great time of the year to be in the western part of the state. Smith Mountain Lake is home to numerous lodging options and attractions. There is great trail running in the park, trout fishing nearby and plenty of  country to explore. For the cyclist in the family be sure to head into Roanoke and the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can learn more about Bedford County HERE. Lodging tends to fill up quickly, so be sure to make your reservations in advance.

This is an outstanding event for all athletes and one that focuses on the collegiate athlete.

You can check out videos footage from 2021 HERE.

The DI, DII, DII draft legal races are for Collegiate athletes only!
The Collegiate Club & National Triathlon Development Race (NDTR) is open to high school/collegiate & elite athletes only!

Registration will open early 2023.

Thank you for making this event your first triathlon! There are many more people like yourself who will be racing this type of event for the first time.  Please note that we no longer have a Novice category/division. We now start all of our races with a time trial start (One at a time) so you can start the race where you feel most comfortable.  We do however have what we call a nervous swimmer swim cap.  If you are nervous about the swim make sure to ask for the nervous swimmers cap at packet pick up.

USA Triathlon requires each triathlete to either have a current membership or purchase a 1-day license. The 1-day license must be purchased when you register. The cost of a 1-day license is $15, an annul membership is $50 for adults and $10 for kids under 18.
