Just minutes from I-95 this mid-season Sprint/Olympic race is fast, flat and easy to get to.  Staged out of beautiful Lums Pond State Park in Bear, Delaware this is a great race for elite and novice athletes alike. The freshwater swim starts with a rectangular course that parallels the shore for the last 250 meters. The bike course is super fast and completes a large loop around the park.  This course is completely flat, all right hand turns and has great pavement throughout.  The run course is amazing with a beautiful, heavily forested mix of single track lake views and wide open graveled walking paths.  There are mountain biking, hiking and running trails galore as well as the GoApe ropes course.  Or you can relax with friends post race at Stewarts Brewing Company on the way home.

Lums Pond Olympic

Course Details & Course Maps

Swim Course: The 1.5K Olympic swim course takes place in the 200 acre pond that is the centerpiece of Lums Pond State Park. Averaging about 10′ in depth and being somewhat long and narrow; this creates a nice, calm swim experience that should be in the mid 70’s on race day. A preliminary water temperature will be posted on our Facebook page on Friday prior to the event. The swim start and finish area are wide open which creates great opportunities for spectating.  The Sprint and Olympic courses are both rectangular with orange sighting buoys located about every 75 meters and yellow triangles for turns.  (Water Temp History)

Bike Course: The bike is flat and fast. After taking a right to exit the park Olympic athletes will do 3 x 6.7 mile loops around the park with all right hand turns. If you want a race that feels like a NASCAR track with aerobars, this is it. When you finish your 3rd lap, you’ll turn right back into the park for T2. Run Course: The run is beautiful with a heavily forested paths. Lums Pond offers some amazing running and you’ll find yourself back here logging some miles after this race. These shaded paths will be nice and cool in the morning and will have aid stations about every mile serving ice water and Gatorade. Once you finish the race you’ll be able to spend some time at the lake talking to old friends and making new ones with plenty of post race food and music. Swim Course: The 750 meter swim course takes place in the 200 acre pond that is the centerpiece of Lums Pond State Park. When you arrive back at the park entrance you’ll turn right to head back to the race site for T2 the total distance will be just over 10 miles. Once you finish the race you’ll be able to spend some time at the lake talking to old friends and making new ones with plenty of post race food and music. Race Information

    • All athletes receive a great race, a super comfy race shirt and socks, finisher’s medal, post race food/drink, high-fives and sore muscles!
    • Race categories available for this race are Overall, Masters Overall, (the overall winners must come from the age group category)
      Age Group, Aquabike (swim-bike-done!), Military (Active Duty|Retirees|Veterans|First Responders|Law Enforcement|Fire|EMS), Clydesdale (Males 220lbs & over) Athena (Females 165lbs & over)  and Relay Teams.  All categories are scored 3 deep.
    • All Kinetic Multisports races are USA Triathlon sanctioned events. You’ll be included in their National Ranking as well as support the US Olympic Team. Click HERE for a brief description of common USAT racing rules and how you can avoid getting a penalty in this event.
    • All Kinetic Multisports race registrations are non-refundable. Race registration insurance is available during the registration process.
    • Race Deferrals are available, learn more in our FAQ’s.
    • All registered athletes will receive an email on the Wednesday or Thursday before the race with all the information pertaining to their entry to include any last minute details to make your race weekend go smoothly!
    • Please do not exceed the speed limit inside the park (25 mph)! The speed limit is STRICTLY enforced!

Please Note: All participants must collect his/ her own event packet. Photo ID is required in order to collect event materials. NO ID = NO EVENT. HINT if you take a photo of your ID with your phone, that will be sufficient for photo ID purposes.

Pre-Race Meeting: An extensive pre-race meeting will take place at 6PM on Saturday. If this is your first race, come to this meeting to have your questions answered. A second brief meeting will occur 15 minutes prior to the first wave race morning.

Thank you for making this event your first triathlon! There are many more people like yourself who will be racing this type of event for the first time.  Please note that we no longer have a Novice category/division. We now start all of our races with a time trial start (One at a time) so you can start the race where you feel most comfortable.  We do however have what we call a nervous swimmer swim cap.  If you are nervous about the swim make sure to ask for the nervous swimmers cap at packet pick up.

USA Triathlon requires each triathlete to either have a current membership or purchase a 1-day license. The 1-day license must be purchased when you register. The cost of a 1-day license is $15, an annul membership is $50 for adults and $10 for kids under 18.
